Chris J. Hanish
CEO & President
The Hanish Group
Christopher John Hanish, born September 30 1959 in Beloit, Wisconsin, is a second generation, thirty-seven year veteran of the water treatment industry. His father Stan (Stosh) Hanish began his tenure in the industry shortly after World War II. The last of seven children, Chris is the only member of the family to follow in his father's footsteps.
While Stan focused on the sales and marketing side of the business with his own companies, as well as with various other companies that he worked with or for in the water treatment industry until his retirement in 1997, Chris developed an expertise for recognizing the need for new and innovative product development.
He has served in virtually every arena of the water treatment, working for or consulting with some of the largest companies in the global industry. However, he believes to this day that his most important time was spent working for Kinetico from 1987 to 1995. During those years he was afforded a few opportunities to visit one-on-one with the company’s founder Bill Prior.
“As I saw it, Bill’s philosophy with regard to running a company and with water treatment design in general was very simple, in that if your company and products do not contribute to the common good in some viable way, then why spend time, money, and human resources in the development of them. While I never personally heard Bill utter those words, I believe this was an underlying theme during his entire career. As a direct result, intended or not, it is mine as well. He is a special man, and that was a special place at a critical time in my development as the future owner of a water treatment company. The lessons I learned regarding the importance of social responsibility in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of a product, never left me.”
As ground breaking as the Kinetico water softener was at the time, today water softeners as a whole represent yesterday’s technology. The only reason that water softeners still exist today and are not banned across the US for their daily discharge of thousands of metric tons of sodium chloride into an already polluted environment is due in part to federal, state, and local governments having not yet been introduced to an alternate technology. That alternate technology now exists in the Hanish Water System product line.
Ten years ago while his friends in the industry were focusing their attention on trying to make water softeners and reverse osmosis technologies more efficient, Chris turned his attention toward Physical Water Processing. Ten years later the WaterCrest-10 was developed. The development of the WaterCrest-10 Whole House Physical Water Processing System is a breakthrough in water processing. It treats water not only for hardness, but also for a host of other harmful contaminants using no salt, no electricity, and no wasted water while delivering high quality, safe drinking water to every outlet in the customer’s home.
As Chris suggests;
“The WaterCrest-10 marks a paradigm shift in water treatment. It is true industry disruptive technology, and represents the only real innovation in the water treatment industry in over forty years.”
Today, The Hanish Group is recognized as the rising star in the global water treatment industry. Innovation is its fuel. With dealers and distributors in the US and abroad, The Hanish Group, and in particular it’s flagship brand Hanish Water, is quickly becoming recognized as the leader in Physical Water Processing in residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural applications.
Physical Water Processing is the future of water treatment for a variety of reasons.
It requires less energy to manufacture.
It requires less energy to ship.
It requires less energy to operate.
It is less expensive.
It has a smaller footprint per system.
It is as green as green gets given the times.
Thus, the entire process from manufacturing to actual operation in the field saves energy and water. Everything about Physical Water Processing has a positive effect on a world that is in desperate need of environmental change and preservation. As Chris explains;
“Physical Water Processing takes all that we know about conventional water treatment, and turns it on its ears. All of it… all conventional water treatment is now archaic by the very definition of its operational parameters. It is out dated and must be replaced in the field as soon as possible if we are to preserve what is left of our most precious of natural resources… water.”
The Hanish Group, with it’s supporting companies and brands, is all about change. But not simply for the sake of change as a sales and marketing tool. Real change involves a personal decision which was the genesis for Chris’ move in the direction of Physical Water Processing. He knew that change would be difficult and would involve much sacrifice on both a professional and personal level. But he believed, and continues to believe, that change was necessary within the global water treatment industry if it is to keep pace with the rest of the energy saving appliance industries worldwide. It is his hope that all companies in the global water treatment industry recognize the need for this change as our world population continues to grow and thus consumes more of our most precious of resources.
“Once in a hundred years or so, one or two companies appear on the landscape and change everything. Ford and Apple, neither of which need any introduction, are perfect examples of such change in the twentieth century. Change equates to a realignment of thought and process, which ushers in a cataclysmic array of additional peripheral changes among supporting industries. The Hanish Group is the tip of the sword in the realm of change within the global water treatment industry. As such, the peripheral change that will take place in support of our efforts can only be seen as a positive impact on the long term common good.”
According to Chris, he is half way through his career as he believes there is much work to be done in the way of new water treatment technologies. New technologies are being worked on daily at The Hanish Group. New product design and R&D are paramount to the long term success of any company, and The Hanish Group is no exception to that rule. However, The Hanish Group is different in that the company cut its teeth on the development of new technology, rather than abandoning an existing archaic technology in the hopes of creating something new. This is the reactionary position that all other companies in the industry find themselves in today. By contrast, The Hanish Group was born in a proactive position.
“The moniker of The Hanish Group, and specifically of Hanish Water, is the quintessential definition of a company that has made an industry disruptive, technological quantum leap... the unexpected end around by an ignored entity in a stagnant industry. The existing water treatment industry has imploded, evident by it’s difficulty in communicating it’s value-added proposition to the consumer because its product offerings have not kept pace with virtually all other consumer products that the consumer is bombarded with on a daily basis. The existing industry continues to offer outdated and wasteful analog type technologies to a technologically savvy consumer. The math doesn’t add up. The consumer is hungry for something else in that they no longer wish to contribute to the sufferings of an already overworked planet. Our natural resources are being used up at an alarming rate. Finding ways to conserve them is the goal of an overwhelming majority of consumers. Our goal is to make it easier for them to find us.”
